Businesses of all sizes operating IT systems, storing customer data, developing software, and delivering internet services face significant security threats. Those threats increasingly require the development of ethical (white hat) hacking initiatives, including collaborating with outside security experts to perform penetration testing, developing bug bounty programs, and developing external vulnerability reporting, disclosure, and patching mechanisms. These critical security activities raise legal and ethical concerns for businesses and security experts alike under computer crime, wiretap, contract, and privacy law.
This event will examine the legal and ethical pitfalls of ethical hacking initiatives through an exploration of case studies, best practices, and looming legal issues. The event will kick off with a keynote from Marcia Hoffman, a nationally renowned attorney and expert on ethical hacking issues followed by panel discussions with in-house, firm, and academic technologists and lawyers.
