On June 28, 2024, Silicon Flatirons convened an invitation-only roundtable discussion in Boulder, CO, titled “Space Sustainability.” The day-long event, conducted under the “Chatham House Rule” asked a diverse group to explore issues related to the sustainability of space as a resource. The Space Sustainability Roundtable highlighted an uncomfortable insight. Space commercialization activities are increasing at exponential growth rates. Yet, international and domestic space regulation is surprisingly underdeveloped at a time when many issues demand attention. The event counted engineers, technologists, lawyers, and business voices among its participants, providing for a diverse set of interests.
