Crash Course: Creating a Great Company Culture

Tags: Entrepreneurship

This Crash Course focuses on how to find, keep, and develop employees who create a great company culture. This Crash Course is useful to individuals who lead businesses of all sizes, as well as individuals looking to join a company that is a strong cultural fit.

Hiring is one of a company’s most critical functions.  A company’s culture is a function of its people.  How to create and maintain a healthy culture changes as a company grows.  When your company is small, you know the name of each employee. You will interact often. Communications are simpler and problems are easier to solve.  As a company scales, you must identify new ways to maintain and nurture your culture, so that it grows with your company and is not left behind. Finding employees that “fit” your culture is essential. Relying on her clinical psychology background, Natalie Baumgartner will discuss how to quantify your organizational culture and find the best potential candidates for your role. Ashley Goldsmith will share some of her anecdotes learned from building Workday into one of the top places to work in the Bay Area.

Beyond hiring, identifying and retaining high functioning team members is crucial to a healthy culture.  Scott Drake will examine key metrics about team member satisfaction.  These measures reveal likelihood of retention among high functioning team members.  Use of mentorship, a focus on team member development, and other tools to enhance culture are examined.

Each session will include a moderated discussion with all presenters, followed by audience Q&A.
