Congratulations, Phil! And our New Chapter

Dear Silicon Flatirons Friends and Supporters,

Last night, our Founder and Executive Director, Phil Weiser, was elected to serve as the Attorney General for the State of Colorado. We wish to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Phil for this tremendous achievement. Public service has been a fundamental part of Phil’s career, and we know he will do a terrific job in this next chapter.

Once Phil moves into his new role this January, that will start a new chapter for our center, as we begin searching for a new Executive Director. We are prepared for this new chapter and will build upon a strong foundation. During Phil’s leadership the past 19 years, he built a strong team of dedicated faculty and staff who will continue to advance Silicon Flatirons’ mission of elevating policy discussions, supporting entrepreneurs, and preparing students for careers in technology policy and entrepreneurship. Moreover, Phil will continue his relationship with the law school as an adjunct professor and engaged (albeit supporting) member of the Silicon Flatirons team after he is sworn in as Attorney General.

“Founding and building Silicon Flatirons remains one of the most meaningful and important things I’ve done in my professional life,” Phil explains. “I am confident that the center will continue to thrive after my departure as Executive Director due to our fantastic team and the culture we have built together. I look forward to staying engaged, although in a different role, and supporting the new Executive Director.”

Through a search committee appointed by Colorado Law Dean Jim Anaya, we will seek to find and hire a new Executive Director for the center.

“Phil has committed incalculable energy into creating and building Silicon Flatirons, an important center here at Colorado Law,” Dean Anaya said. “His legacy of encouraging vigorous technology policy debate and supporting the success of both students and entrepreneurs in our community will live on in the center. We appreciate all that he has done for Colorado Law and our students and congratulate him on his new position.”

We sincerely wish Phil all the best as he is sworn in as Attorney General on January 8, 2019, and we look forward to his continued engagement with the center. We look forward to seeing you at upcoming events, including a special opportunity to acknowledge and thank Phil for his leadership at our annual technology policy conference on February 10-11th.

If you have any questions or concerns during this time of transition, please reach out to our Managing Director, Anna Noschese, at anna.noschese@colorado.edu.
