Merck & Co., Inc. — Executive Director, Intellectual Property



Lisa Jakob is currently serving as Executive Director, Intellectual Property for Merck & Co., Inc. in the Office of General Counsel. Lisa is an experienced Intellectual Property and litigation attorney with a broad range of experience and a deep commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Lisa currently is managing a global enterprise project concerning digital compliance. Lisa is a proud co-founder of the Women in IP Network (WIN), an international network dedicated to supporting other women in the field of IP by honing skills, promoting each other and building a community of abundance where all can flourish.

Prior to taking on her current role at Merck, Lisa was the head of the Trademark and Copyright team and prior to that focused on global IP and products liability litigation. Lisa has also worked on mergers and acquisition, business development and integration efforts and was an integral member of the team responsible for divesting Merck’s women’s health business and the creation of Organon. Lisa is also a member of Merck’s Pro Bono Committee where she is the champion for the UVISA Program, she has worked on patient advocacy within Merck and with outside organizations and has built homes in Africa with Habitat for Humanity.

Prior to joining Merck, Lisa worked for Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, and Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto (now Venable), where she was involved in all aspects of intellectual property including patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright litigation, patent prosecution, corporate transactions and trademark counterfeiting enforcement. Lisa was also an intern for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Novo Nordisk and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation prior to graduating from law school. Lisa holds a JD and Certificate of Environmental Law from the Elizabeth Haub School of Law and a Bachelors degree in Biology from the State University of New York at Albany.

Lisa is admitted to the New York State Bar and New Jersey State Bar, the Federal District Courts of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Federal District Court of New Jersey, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
