Dr. Aram Sinnreich is a media professor, author, and musician. He currently serves as Professor and PhD Director at American University’s School of Communication in Washington, DC, as well as Chair of the Communication Law & Policy division at the International Communication Association. Sinnreich’s scholarly work focuses on the intersection of culture, law and technology, with an emphasis on subjects such as emerging media and music. He is the author of five published books: Mashed Up (University of Massachusetts Press, 2010); The Piracy Crusade (University of Massachusetts Press, 2013); The Essential Guide to Intellectual Property (Yale University Press, 2019); science fiction novel A Second Chance for Yesterday (Solaris Books, 2023; coauthored with Rachel Hope Cleves as R. A. Sinn); and The Secret Life of Data (MIT Press, 2024; coauthored with Jesse Gilbert). A sixth book, tentatively entitled Apple and coauthored with Neil Perry, is currently under contract with Polity. Sinnreich has also written about media, law, culture, and technology for publications including The New York Times, Billboard, Wired, The Daily Beast, Salon, and Rolling Stone. Additionally, he has appeared as an expert source on these and related issues in more than 1,000 news stories and broadcasts, for outlets including NBC news, ABC news, CBS news, CNN, NPR, and Time Magazine.
