On February 18, 2009, the Silicon Flatirons Center will present Sue Kunz, founder and former CEO of Solidware Techonologies, Inc., as our featured entrepreneur in our Entrepreneurs Unplugged series. Beginning as a software developer for a Boulder start-up, Ms. Kunz career has spanned a variety of roles including founding and serving as CEO of a highly successful software company. Ms. Kunz has over 25 years of experience in business, sales & marketing, and engineering in businesses ranging from start-ups to large corporations.
Entrepreneurs Unplugged is a meeting place where individuals with technical backgrounds learn about and get involved in entrepreneurship. In particular, the program offers students and faculty an opportunity to learn how a successful start up is created as well as an opportunity to network. Each Entrepreneurs Unplugged meeting features food, drink and – most importantly – an experienced entrepreneur to discuss his/her start-up experiences.
Sue Kunz

Sue Kunz is currently the Acting CEO of Boulder Environmental Sciences & Technologies. Her experience spans 25 years in business, sales and marketing, and engineering. Among the numerous roles that she held in her career, include CEO, Founder and Corporate Executive.
As Founder and CEO of Solidware Technologies, Inc. a software company focused on technology solutions to reduce software defects, Kunz was responsible for corporate vision, strategy, execution and capitalization, and led the company to a successful acquisition in less than 4 years.
Prior to Solidware, Kunz’s corporate experience included Sun Microsystems where she was Director of Marketing & Business Development for the Microelectronics division, Six Sigma Deployment Director, Marketing Director for Services, and held various engineering management positions.
Prior to Sun, Kunz founded an independent consultancy selling digital imaging solutions in Germany. Also internationally, Kunz held various international product/strategic marketing positions at IBM.
Kunz started her career at Precision Visuals, Inc., a Boulder based start-up, where she was a software developer and participated in standards committees. As the only headquarters’ representative, she was instrumental in setting up the European offices for PVI in Frankfurt, Germany.
An avid believer in giving back to the community, Kunz has served/serves on several board of directors and advisory boards including Governor Bill Ritter’s Council for Innovation, Silicon Flatirons Entrepreneurial Advisory Board; SPARC International, American BioResources, Free World Foods, and Linerate Systems. Kunz is also a mentor for Techstars, a successful incubator for technology based startups. She speaks regularly on entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial finance, women in business/tech, technology, and fundraising and has published multiple articles internationally.
Kunz is a recipient of the Tribute to Women in Industry Award from the YWCA, Santa Clara and graduated cum laude with a BS in Computer Science from the University of Idaho.
