Christopher Anderson

Institute for Telecommunication Sciences — Theory Division Chief and Acting Measurement Division Chief

Christopher R. Anderson joined ITS in 2023 following a distinguished 16-year tenure at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) as an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. In June of 2024, he was elevated to ITS Theory Division Chief. At USNA, he founded and directed the Wireless Measurements Group, a specialized research team focusing on spectrum, propagation, and field strength measurements in diverse environments and frequencies ranging from 300 MHz to 28 GHz. From 2016-2018, Dr. Anderson served as a Visiting Researcher for the ITS Theory Division, concentrating on the development of propagation models for cluttered environments.

Currently, his primary interests lie in enhancing spectrum coexistence between active and passive technologies and improving wireless coverage in rural or under-served areas. He has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed conference and journal articles. He is an IEEE Senior Member, a former Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, the Chair of the UAV and V2V Channel Modeling Subgroup of the IEEE P.1944 Mobile Communication Network Standards Committee, and the Secretary/Chair-Elect of the International Unio of Radio Science (URSI) U.S. National Committee. Dr. Anderson received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Colorado.
