Rob Alderfer is Vice President of Technology Policy at Charter Communications, where he focuses on the intersection of engineering and governance at one of the largest communications service providers in the United States. Rob brings sound science to bear in policy decisions by harnessing the organization’s technology expertise, empowering Charter to address matters of strategic consequence.

Rob joined Charter in 2021 from CableLabs, the cable industry’s global technology hub, where he spent nearly a decade leading the consortium’s technology policy and strategy functions. Prior to CableLabs, Rob served in government across two administrations, in communications policy roles at the Federal Communications Commission and the White House Office of Management and Budget.

Rob has been engaged in significant policy decisions for nearly twenty years, helping to shape today’s communications technology landscape. He currently serves on the Technological Advisory Council (TAC) and the Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council (CSRIC) of the FCC, as a board member to the Broadband Internet Technical Advisory Group (BITAG), has served as an Advisory Board member to Silicon Flatirons, the technology policy center at the University of Colorado, and has chaired the Telecommunications Policy Research Conference (TPRC), a leading communications policy research forum.
