Folkert Wilman works for the Legal Service of the European Commission on matters relating to the liability and responsibilities of online platforms (Digital Services Act, EU rules on combatting terrorist content and child sexual abuse material, etc.). In 2018-2019 he spent a year at the University of Colorado Boulder as part of the EU fellowship. In 2020 his book ‘The responsibility of online intermediaries for illegal user content in the EU and the US’ was published. The book covers both US law (Sections 230 CDA and 512 DMCA) and EU law (in particular, e-Commerce Directive) and contains suggestions for the reform of the EU regime. He participates in a personal capacity.
